Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2 remote viewfinder hands-on (video)

At last night's launch of the US-bound Galaxy Player 4.2 -- also known elsewhere as the Galaxy S WiFi 4.2 -- we had the opportunity to try out Samsung's remote viewfinder with the WiFi-equipped WB150F digital camera we saw at CES. The free app -- which runs on Android and iOS devices -- provides select Samsung shooters with a wireless viewfinder and remote. We noticed a minor amount of lag with the live video stream but the controls (shutter, zoom, flash, timer, image size) were quite responsive. Pictures can even be geotagged and saved to both the camera and the remote device. Unlike its predecessor, the WB150F becomes a WiFi access point instead of relying on the app to create a hotspot -- something that's generally limited to phones that allow tethering. While Samsung was showcasing the app on the Galaxy Player 4.2, it works on most Galaxy devices and installs on other Android handsets too (like our HTC One X). SEATTLE (AP) ? He's on the lam, but Travis A. Nicolaysen still had time to update his Facebook page.

The 26-year-old has eluded authorities since two foot chases Wednesday and a dragnet that included a police dog tracking him through a Port Angeles neighborhood.

The dog came up only with a blue bandanna he had been wearing.

His first day on the run, one friend posted to his account: "Cops all over you." Nicolaysen responded the next day with: "ya got away thanks bro."

A post from another friend told him to be careful. Another urged him to surrender and set a better example for his children. "You're not getting any younger and you're looking at a lot of time," the friend writes. A picture on the Facebook page shows Nicolaysen with two toddlers.

Nicolaysen has been convicted of five felonies, including domestic violence, burglary and theft of a firearm, police said. He is wanted by the Washington state Department of Corrections for failing to check in with his community corrections officer since January.

He's also accused of assaulting his girlfriend on March 28, police said.

Better make that his ex-girlfriend. In a post Saturday, Nicolaysen changed his relationship status to single, the Peninsula Daily News reported (http://is.gd/dpnPtm ).

Police are among those checking the page. "Absolutely," Deputy Chief Brian Smith told The Associated Press on Monday.

"We're used to pinging databases and sources of information," he said. "It's normal for us to look at Facebook accounts."

A lot of people communicate openly and can remain beyond the long arm of the law, at least for a while, Smith said.

Facebook tells its users that it may share certain information if it gets requests from law enforcement, and that it does have some ability to track people via IP addresses and GPS location.

Serving Facebook with a search warrant is a possibility, but there are no immediate plans for that, Smith said. For now, police hope the publicity alone may be enough to flush him out in a city the size of Port Angeles, population 19,000, on the Olympic Peninsula about 65 miles northwest of Seattle.

"In a smaller community, it's harder to disappear and be anonymous," Smith said. "We're hoping people who know him call police."

"People are giving him advice" to surrender, Smith said, "and he might want to follow it."

While police find the fugitive Facebook posting a little frustrating, it's a source of glee for Teri Newell of Port Angeles who says she helped raise Nicolaysen and describes herself as his aunt.

"I think it's hilarious," said Newell, who confirmed the Facebook account belonged to Nicolaysen.

"That's my boy, Travis," she said.

"Every single time he gets out of jail, he doesn't check in," said Newell, who also complains that police are heavy-handed.

She said she doesn't know where he is.

"If he's smart, he's hidden away, tucked away safe," she said.

Port Angeles attorney Robert Vienneau, who says he knows Nicolaysen, says the fugitive does what he has to do to get by.

"Travis comes from a rough background, but he's got a good heart," Vienneau said.

An email to Nicolaysen from The Associated Press bounced back.

This is a common exclamation by new Office 2007 and 2010 users. We come from a long line of ?double clickers? even though precious little needs a double click. One of the things you might actually double click on is a tab on the Ribbon (Home, Insert, Page Layout, etc.). If you do this it will minimize the Ribbon. You will still see your Quick Access Toolbar, but no Groups or Buttons.

Solution ? Single click, then Double click on any tab. Voila! Your Ribbon is back. You can also right click on a tab and uncheck Minimize the Ribbon. By the way if this doesn?t bring it back, you may have accidentally clicked on the Full Screen button in the View tab and Workbook Views group. To fix this, minimize the application, then restore it. All Better. If you just had it open, don?t remember closing it and then no matter how many times you try to open it it just doesn?t appear, it can seem like you?ve crossed over to another dimension.

Solution ? Relax! What you probably did was accidently click on the Hide button in the View tab and the Windows group. In the same place, just below it is the Unhide button. Click it and you?ll see a dialog box with your workbook listed. Select it, click OK and you?re back! Sometimes in the process of working with our worksheets in multiple windows, Excel hangs on to the sized worksheet. Since when a Window is sized (click the Arrange button in the Window Group on the View tab), it can be dragged down, the worksheet tabs might seem to disappear.

Minimize, Restore, Close buttons

Solution ? You know those 3 buttons that appear in the upper right hand corner of application Window for minimize (the dash), restore (box or boxes) and close (the X)? You will see another set of these at the upper right hand corner of the worksheet. Click the box in the middle of the three buttons on the worksheet. Published: 12:40 PM EST (09:40 AM PST) Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook earned about $378 million in 2011, making him the highest-paid CEO in the U.S. based on one new analysis. But Cook won't be able to actually collect all of the money unless he stays at Apple for 10 years.

Cook's earnings last year were mostly from a one-time stock award of $376.2 million that extends over 10 years. In addition, his salary, perks and bonuses amounted to $1.8 million for the 12-month span, as highlighted in a profile by The New York Times.

While the Times suggested that Cook earned $1 million a day last year, the truth is he won't see most of the money for many years. The stock awarded to Cook in 2011 requires that he stay at the company for 10 years, which instead amounts to $103,000 a day if he were to fulfill that requirement, as noted by Philip Elmer-Dewitt at Apple 2.0.

In fact, Apple's own 2012 proxy statement filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission states that Cook's compensation should be viewed "over the 10-year vesting period and not solely as compensation for 2011."

While Cook was awarded $376.2 million in AAPL stock in 2011, he didn't see any of it last year. Instead, his annual salary was just $900,000, well less than the median total compensation of $14.4 million for U.S. CEOs last year, as reported by the Times.

If the total stock compensation is included, Cook's earnings in 2011 were well beyond second-place finisher Larry Ellison of Oracle Corp., who made $77.6 million last year. In third place was former Apple retail chief Ron Johnson, who made $53.3 million in his new role at U.S. retailer JC Penney.

In fourth on the list was Philippe Dauman, CEO of Viacom, who earned $43.1 million. Honeywell's David Cote took fifth with $35.3 million, and Stephen Chazen of Occidental Petroleum was sixth with $31.7 million.

In seventh was Bob Iger, Disney's chief executive, who earned $31.4 million in 2011. Last November, Iger joined Apple's board of directors, and he also worked closely with late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs on content deals, while the two presided over Disney's 2006 acquisition of Pixar.

Rounding out the top ten were Marathon Oil CEO Clarence Cazalot Jr. ($29.9 million), Ford Motor Company's Alan Mulally ($29.5 million), and News Corp. Chief Executive Rupert Murdoch ($29.4 million).

Health depends on your body?s ability to resist disease. Resistance depends to a great extent on nutrition and varies with changing nutritional states. So, to preserve or promote health, you must know what vital elements are needed and where to find them in foods.

Foods are intended to supply the body with materials that can be converted into heat and energy and facilitate tissue formation and repair. All natural foods supply these materials in varying amounts.

Just as a fire can be smothered by too much fuel, so the body fires can be dampened by too much bad food.

Though foods are intended to create energy in the body, the over ? consumption of bad food produces the opposite effect. The result is a greatly reduced amount of healthy energy.

A reduction in energy is just part of the problem. When your body is unable to convert foods into the necessary vitamins and nutrients, the unused foods may create waste products within the body. Serious chronic ailments may develop as a result.

Thus, healthful eating results from wise selection, proper preparation of alkaline foods in the right combinations and quantities. If you will pay attention to each of these important elements, your body will be able to burn foods properly to create the right balance of energy and nutrition.

Tip 1: Raw fresh fruits (without sugar) or raw vegetable salads or raw fruit juices or raw vegetable juices should be eaten at every meal. If your breakfast is so small that you ordinarily eat only toast and a vegetable, stop eating the toast and take fruits or fresh juices instead.

If your lunches are usually light ones, eliminate the sandwich or pie that you may have been filling up on, and substitute a raw drink or raw salad in its place. Have a large salad and raw juice before you eat a heavy entree at dinner. This way, you will be sure to eat all of the salad instead of finding yourself too full to finish it.

Tip 2: Limit proteins in your diet because they are acid-forming. Flesh foods and eggs are highly toxic and, if eaten at all, large amounts of alkaline-forming foods should be eaten with them. You can enjoy large healthful desserts at every meal when made of alkaline fruits with very little or no sugar.

Tip 3: Do not eat more than one starch food at a meal. You can choose non-starch vegetables as the main fillers at each meal. If you use sugar and sweets eat it only for desserts ? just something small at the end of your meal to satisfy your craving. Make it a habit to satisfy your appetite completely with the salad and main course dishes, and then smaller portions of dessert will suffice. Large healthful desserts may be enjoyed at every meal when made of alkaline fruits with very little or no sugar.

Tip 4: Drinking abundant water tends to relieve constipation, flushes out the kidneys, removes waste matter and keeps the million of you body cells in better working condition. Did you know that water is one of the best regulators and eliminators we have?

It is always best to drink between meals, but if you must drink water during meals, avoid using water to moisten or wash down your foods. This is a bad habit that we have since early years. Eating food dry is one effective way of eating less.

A good rule to follow is to drink eight (8 oz.) glasses a day. More water is required during hot weather or if you do a lot of physical exercise.

Tip 5: All foods originally come from the plant kingdom. Animals cannot originate foods. Plants are food producers.

Hey Canbits, I?m an expert at gravy??.

1. Throw away Bisto, Oxo or any other powder/gravy granule type product

2. When roastin your piece of meat (Beef, Pork, Lamb, Chicken) add a couple of onions (cut in half, skins left on), a couple of carrotts (quartered) an a stick of celery (chopped into pieces about an inch long) for the last hour or so of roastin time.

3. When your meat is done, remove it from the roastin dish an leave it on a warm plate to rest. Skim off any excess fat from the roastin dish that the meat has been cooked in then place the roastin dish on the hot plate on your stove. Mash up the vegetables in the roastin dish with the thing that you use to mash your potatoes with and add a tablespoon of plain flour, then just push the stuff around a bit, scrapin all the bits of meat up that have stuck to the bottom of the dish when the meat was roastin. (The longer you heat this mixture, the darker your gravy will be. Keep your eyes on it an keep movin it around so it doesn?t burn an stick to the bottom of your roastin dish)

4. Add your stock a bit at a time (which you will have made earlier from the water that you strained off from the pan you boiled your carrotts in, addin a vegetable stock cube if you wish to enhance the stock) until you have a gravy of the consistency you require (I prefer a thinner gravy, but you can thicken it up with cornflour if you like it thicker) Keep tastin the gravy as you are doin this, addin more salt or pepper until it is as you like it

5. Pour the gravy through a sieve into another pan, makin sure that you squash all the remainin vegetables in the sieve, squeezin out every bit of the taste in them

6. Ladle some of the gravy over whatever meat you are eatin, pour the rest into a gravy boat that you have had warmin gently in the oven

7. Enjoy it, keepin an eye on Mrs Canbits and how many times she pours more gravy onto her plate, as she surely will???

It seems like a bit of an effort Canbits, but it?s not really an I guarantee it?s well worth it, you?ll never use Bisto or the likes again.

It?s considered good form to mop up the gravy with a piece of thickly buttered bread in my house as well.

There probably wont be any left over for freezin tho??
