Researchers at the University of Arizona Cancer Center have won a $100,000 grant from a foundation to study whether the tumors of cancer patients can be tracked to determine the best therapy before their treatment begins.
The grant from the Sidney Hopkins and Mayola V. Vail Family Fund Community Foundation for Southern Arizona will be split up by two researchers.
One researcher will use the grant to study how MRIs can measure a tumor's acid content and predict the effectiveness of chemotherapies before a patient starts treatment.
The other researcher will examine the level of a serum enzyme as a marker in brain tumors.
