KAREN NIEMLA
I have been working in libraries for 5 years, and I am motivated to expand the potential of the profession and its professionals. I have been a member of ACRL-LA since 2007 and I have been active since 2008. I am especially interested in digital libraries and web design, but I am also an instruction librarian and I am very aware of the importance of information literacy. I have presented at LLA and LUC conferences since 2007 and other conferences as well. In 2011, I created a website to raise awareness of the LOUIS consortium and co-presented about it at the NASIG conference. For LLA 2011 I was the secretary of LLA Academic Section and planned the ACRL-LA / Academic section ?Meet and Greet? breakfast.
BORIS TESKE
Boris Teske seeks your support as the next President of ACRL-LA. An active member of ACRL for more than 20 years, all totaled, particularly in the Wisconsin Association of Academic Librarians (WAAL) during the 90s, Boris joined our chapter when he came to Louisiana Tech University in 2003 as the College of Liberal Arts Liaison Librarian. An assistant professor at Tech with both his M.A. in History and M.S. in Library Science from the University of North Carolina, he has presented and published research on the curricular integration and performance assessment of information literacy. He has served on the information literacy committees of LALINC and of WAAL, where he co-authored the Information Literacy Competencies and Criteria for Academic Libraries in Wisconsin (1998). As Library User Education Program Leader at Temple University, he completed the coordinator track of the Immersion Program run by ACRL?s Institute for Information Literacy. He has also presented to the Louisiana Historical Association results of his archival research on natural sciences in French colonial Louisiana. Boris has served ACRL-LA as Chair of the former Nominations & Elections Committee and as the original Chair of the Awards Committee. His chief goal and fondest hope is to convene Louisiana academic librarians at our own conference like the one we last held in November 2003, keynoted by Dr. Patricia Senn Breivik, at Cypress Bend Resort on Toledo Bend Lake near Many.
APRIL GREY
April Grey is the Head of Cataloging at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette since August 2011. She previously was the Catalog Librarian at Medaille College in Buffalo, NY. She has worked at Coutts Information Services and Ingram Content Group as a cataloger. A graduate of the University at Buffalo with a Master of Library Science degree, she also has a bachelor?s degree in Psychology and an additional master?s degree in Education with a concentration in elementary special education. April is a member of the LLA Literary Award Committee and the ALA CaMMS/PCC Committee on Education Training Materials. She has been selected for a two year term as intern on the ALA Committee on Diversity. She is the winner of the 2012 ALA NMRT Annual Conference Professional Development Attendance Award. She has presented at both ALA and LLA conferences and has published in Codex, Catholic Library World, and Louisiana Libraries. April?s professional interests include cloud computing, metadata creation and succession planning for cataloging and technical services departments.
PAUL KELSEY
Paul Kelsey recently accepted a position as Head of Acquisitions for Sims Memorial Library at Southeastern Louisiana University. Paul earned his Master?s in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from The University of Texas at Austin in 1995, and a B.A. in Religion from the Colorado College in 1990. Paul comes to Sims with over a decade of experience working in both academic and public libraries.
Paul has several years of experience from the LSU Libraries, where he worked as an Agriculture Librarian and Collection Development Coordinator. Paul has published several articles in academic journals, co-edited Outreach Services in Academic and Special Libraries (The Haworth Press, 2003), and edited Profiles of Best Practices in Academic Library Interlibrary Loan (Primary Research Group, 2009). He has served on a variety of American Library Association and USAIN (United States Agricultural Network) committees, including serving as co-chair of the 2007 STS Oberly Award committee. Paul was recently appointed a member of the ALCTS Continuing Education Committee and a Member-at-Large of the ALCTS Program Committee. He is also co-founder (with Gale Criswell, then State Library Youth Services) of the Louisiana Young Readers? Choice Award. Paul looks forward to applying his knowledge of academic librarianship to work on new and existing projects for the ACRL Louisiana Chapter.
GENA CHATTIN
My name is Gena Chattin, and I am the recently-hired Digital Initiatives Librarian at the University of New Orleans.
During my past few years as an assistant in the Electronic Services department at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., I managed several digital collaborations between the CUA Libraries and the University Archives. This meant keeping communications open and often translating between librarian and archivist languages to make sure that everyone was on the same page and that all needs were met.
I find that academic libraries thrive when they understand each other and work together toward a common goal. This sort of collaboration requires clear and frequent communication. To this end, I am running for the office of secretary in the ACRL-LA. I want to do my part to ensure transparency and timely communication of issues important to the membership and thereby create an environment where we can build on each other?s' successes and support each other in tough times.
ALYSON GAMBLE
Alyson Gamble is a second-year MLIS student at Louisiana State University and a library technician at Tulane University?s Howard Tilton Memorial Library. She has worked in academic libraries for four years, serving in reference and circulation capacities. She holds a Master of Liberal Arts from Tulane University, where she completed an interdisciplinary thesis, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Spring Hill College. She is a member of LLA?s Academic Section and New Members Round Table, ALA, and ACRL. Gamble was the 2012 winner of LLA?s Thorpe Grassroots Grant Award and LSU?s John and Hester Slocum Fellowship. Gamble has held paid administrative assistant positions in law firms, a social justice ministry, and an animal boarding facility. She is enthusiastic, exceptionally organized, and internally motivated. A New Orleans resident, she lives with her husband and dog and enjoys cycling, running, volunteering, and costuming. Following graduation, Gamble hopes to serve an academic community as an instruction librarian.
ELIZABETH GRAVES
I began my career teaching high school English. After nine years of teaching, and a two-year stint as an elementary/junior high school librarian, I knew my calling was to be a librarian. My first job, working for a career college, Brown Mackie, provided me the opportunity to understand the unique needs of career-focused students. My Brown Mackie experience led to an interest in academic librarianship which I followed to Northwestern State University of Louisiana.
KRISTI KOHL
After earning her Bachelor?s degree in Psychology from Berry College in Mt. Berry, GA in 1995, Kristi conducted research at the Georgia Museum of Art and the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia. She worked at the West Cobb Regional Library in Kennesaw, GA from 2004 to 2007, and then moved with her family to Shreveport in 2008. Kristi earned her Master?s degree in Library and Information Science from Louisiana State University in 2010.
LINDSEY RENO
Lindsey Reno moved to Louisiana from California just three months ago to accept the position of Acquisitions Librarian/Subject Specialist at the Earl K. Long Library at the University of New Orleans. Her most recent position was Acquisitions Librarian at Occidental College in Los Angeles. She is originally from Massachusetts, where she earned her M.S. in Library and Information Science at Simmons College before accepting a position as Technical Services Librarian B at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She has over seven years of experience in Acquisitions, which included the management of large budgets and financial problem-solving. This would make her particularly well-suited to taking on the role of Treasurer of ACRL-LA. As one of the aforementioned newbies to the State of Louisiana, she hopes to bring fresh ideas and creative insights to the chapter.
Since moving to Shreveport, she assisted with collection management at two museums and served as the solo librarian at Remington College. In her new role as Reference/Electronic Resources/Web Librarian at Magale Library of Centenary College, she is looking forward to working in a larger academic environment, maintaining Magale?s website, and providing instruction on information literacy. In line with her life-long love of the arts, Kristi is also excited about the opportunity to manage the art gallery in Magale?s entry.
Kristi is a member of the American Library Association (ALA), Special Libraries Association (SLA), and Visual Resources Association (VRA). She currently serves as Treasurer of the Museum, Arts, and Humanities Division (MAHD) of SLA. Kristi plans on continuing her education to earn a PhD in library and information science and enjoys working to maintain open access to repositories of knowledge and visual culture.
