New Diets for 2013 | The Bold Blend

Lately, I?ve been working on what I know that ?I? need to do to get and keep my fitness in gear.? No grand plans?.just keeping the focus on consistency and slow but steady improvements that I can maintain.

Still,? the next two months are going to be a harrowing series of nutritional pitfalls.? It?s a time synonymous with pie and cookie consumption.? It all leads up to the inevitable January diet, fitness re-commitment, etc.? That thought got me wondering what the new diets will be for 2013.

A quick look at Amazon.com shows the following offerings:

Shred: The Revolutionary Diet: 6 Weeks 4 Inches 2 Sizes ? This diet by Dr. Ian K. Smith (the Fat Smash guy) combines?a low GI diet, meal?spacing, and meal replacements.

The Virgin Diet ? On The Virgin Diet (by JJ Virgin), you?ll eat plenty of anti-inflammatory, healing foods to reclaim your health and reset your metabolism, while avoiding the 7 foods that are most likely to cause food intolerance. According to this book, you?ll never feel hungry or deprived, and in just one week, you?ll drop up to 7 pounds, lose belly bloat, gain energy, clear up inflammation and look and feel years younger.

The Miracle Carb Diet: Make Calories and Fat Disappear-with Fiber! ? uses the power of fiber filling foods to help you lose weight.

The 8-Hour Diet ? Zinczenko and Moore demonstrate how simply observing this timed-eating strategy just three days a week will reset a dieter?s metabolism so that he or she can enter fat-burning mode first thing in the morning?and stay there all day long. And by focusing on 8 critical, nutrient-rich Powerfoods, readers will also protect themselves from Alzheimer?s, heart disease, even the common cold.

These are just 4 of the over 400 new diet books that will be on the market towards the end of the year!? It?s enough to make a girl?s (or guy?s) head spin.

Let?s take a look at the what they are selling:

  • Low Sugar
  • High Fiber
  • Intermittent Fasting
  • Low Allergen
  • Lots of fresh produce
  • Portion control

I?m not knocking any of these books.? I think that out of the 400 offerings available, these books and authors have ideas that can help a lot of people.

Still, before purchasing yet another diet book this year, ask yourself the following questions:

  • What changes am I willing to make?
  • Am I really able to abstain from XYZ food/food group?
  • Would I rather eat a whole lot of low calorie food or a smaller amount of higher calorie food that is more satisfying (low carb vs. low fat basically)?
  • Am I an abstainer or a moderator?? Meaning do I do best abstaining from certain foods/drinks or should I try to build a plan that allows for occasional indulgences?? For some it?s best to plan in extras?.for others it might mean months of derailment.

At the end of the day, we all need to focus on making the changes we can stick with for a lifetime.? After weight loss comes maintenance.? If you can?t maintain your diet for a lifetime, it?s likely not the best choice for you.

What are your plans for weight loss in the the new year?
