Yet Another Newspaper Ran A Huge Gun Ad ... - Business Insider

The Stamford Advocate ran a large ad for a gun show next to a story Thursday about Sandy Hook Elementary School students going back to school for the first time since the shooting that killed 26 women and small children.

Hearst Connecticut Media Group executive editor Barbara T. Roessner issued a public apology:

"Our newspapers should not be running gun ads ? including ads for antique and collectible gun shows ? next to stories about Sandy Hook. It?s insensitive, and it shouldn?t have happened. It was an oversight, and we apologize for it. We have taken steps to make sure it doesn?t happen again."

But this isn't the first time a newspaper has made this mistake.

Days after the shooting, the South Carolina Rock Hill Herald put a large gun ad for a pre-Christmas arms sale next to coverage of the Newtown massacre.

The Allentown Morning call also had headlines about the tragedy on A1 and a large gun ad on B1.
